Environmental Activities
Epson Portland Inc. is truly an environmentally conscientious company and is proactive in making itself as "green" as possible. In addition to the volunteer work done by employees and the money donated to environmental causes, EPI also continually seeks out new ways to recycle materials and reduce the company’s impact to the environment. In addition, EPI partners with other companies that can reuse our waste products.
Any reusable packaging that vendors send us components in are collected and returned to those vendors for future use. All paper, cardboard and film plastic are taken by Far West Fiber where they are sorted and recycled into second-generation paper, cardboard and other composite materials. Scrap metals and hard plastics are taken by Quantum Resource Recovery where they are recycled.
The remaining waste which cannot be recycled or reused is sent to Covanta Energy in Brooks, OR. At Covanta Energy, waste is incinerated, and the steam generated by the process is used to create electricity, some of which is then sold to Portland General Electric.
In addition, EPI continues to work with the Department of Environmental Quality and the Green Environmental Management System (GEMS) permit program to demonstrate industry leadership and is working toward applying sustainable development principles to the environmental life cycle aspects of its activities, products, and services.
Not only does the company contribute to the production of ’green products’ through reuse and recycling, but its affirmative procurement program also makes it a priority to purchase products that have been made from recycled materials or are environmentally safe.
